Clay Research Group is a year long programme that explores making from the perspective of material investigation. Consisting of 4 terms, each 10 weeks long, together you will gather and make materials, share test results, discuss ideas and create new work.
With a strong group dynamic growing throughout the year, this new community aims to provide a new approach to material enquiry and encourages exploring ceramics in greater depth.

2026 will create the third co-ort of students to attend this highly regarded course, with alumni completing fully funded site specific projects and building wood kilns. Attending this course means joining an expanding peer group of exciting ceramicists.

CLAY WILLOW FIRE
Norwich and Norfolk / 2026​

A year long research course dedicated to the investigation of traditional processes found in crafts relating to land management by the Norfolk Broads Authority, the consideration of sustainable making and local material production. This experimental course will focus on creative explorations of ecology through clay, willow weaving and wood firing, with most of the sessions taking place outside.
The structure of the course follows 10 weekends from January to November, with time for people to continue exploring independent avenues of practise between sessions. This course is designed for anyone interested in reconnecting with the natural environment, community and making sustainably.
Over 10 intensive weekends, we will gather materials, make through explorations of traditional process and produce new works for two wood firings in Spring and Autumn, learn basic willow harvesting & weaving techniques and fire wood kilns.
