Ceramic Pit Firing / 9 Trory Street, JUNE/JULY (4 weeks)

June 5th & 12th ~ 6-8pm : Making and burnishing at Trory St

June 30th ~ 10am onwards : Pit firing near Burnham Market

July 3rd ~ 6-8pm : Cleaning and polishing at Trory St

A rare opportunity to produce and participate in a ceramic pit firing, where natural ingredients are used to leave flashings of colour upon the surface, such as banana skins, seaweed and coffee

 

During the first 2 sessions you will be guided in hand building a pair of clay objects which you'll burnish ready for the firing. These works will be fired and transported to the pit where we will meet for the firing on Sunday 26th.

This workshop of making and firing will be lead by both ceramicist Rose Brettingham and Artist Rachel Kurdynowska.

Slow Clay SLIP SERIES / 9 Trory Street (8 weeks)

Wednesday morning / April 10th - June 12th / 10am-1pm

£275 *Materials and firing charged at additional cost

A chance to listen and respond to clay during an 8-week course that focuses on hand building, material knowledge and slowing down.

For this series of sessions we will be looking at traditional English slipware, we'll explore making press moulds, slab building, slip decoration and application. By the end of course you will have a collection of pieces that demonstrate a selection of slip techniques. 

This course is suitable for anyone wanting to slow down and gain a better understanding of clay. 

- This course includes a 2 week break May 8-15th.

Looking at Clay / Trory Street (6 weeks)

Tuesday evening / April 9th - May 21st / 6-8pm

£195 Materials and firing included

An exploratory 8-week course that focuses on hand building, material knowledge and sustainability within ceramics. Slowing down our approach to making through exercises of repetition and the reclaiming of selected works to better consider our ceramic footprint.

Weekly exercises may include drawing, technical repetition of hand building techniques, clay exploration, group activities and the chance to make considered works, some of which we'll choose to fire at the end of the course.

- This course includes a 1 week break on May 14th.
