Clay Study Group at Helgate Pottery (8 weeks)
Friday mornings / July 21st - September 15th / 10am-1pm

In a meditative group setting, during eight 3-hour sessions, you will be given space and materials to develop a project involving clay under the mentorship and support of Rachel Kurdynowska.
Each session will involve a demonstration or exercise, followed by group working where Rachel will be on hand to provide guidance and 1-to-1 feedback. You may prefer to work as an individual, or to develop a project collaboratively with other members of the group, but fundamentality these sessions are for creative exploration and experimentation.
The Clay Research Group is designed for people who are confident at working with clay and able to work in a self directed way, but who have an open mind and are willing to challenge and explore playfully with this wonderful material.

Slow Clay at Trory Street (10 weeks)
Tuesday morning / August 29th - October 31st / 10am-1pm
£300 *Self chosen materials and firing will be charged at an additional cost

A chance to relax and explore the many possibilities of hand building with clay. During this 10 week course, that's guided towards slow making, together we will explore a variety of techniques and references that teach us to better listen to clay.
Self lead projects will provide a variety of inspiration within the group and allow you to learn from each others creativity. This combination of observation and learnt methodology will allow you to begin making more complicated and considered forms.
Alongside making we will also explore the production and maintenance of materials, such as slips and glazes. You will be taught about clay recycling and practice a variety of wedging techniques. This will help to provide a more intimate experience with the material and offers a rare chance to participate in the running of a ceramics studio.
This course is suitable for anyone wanting to gain a better understanding of clay.

Ceramic Surfaces at Trory Street (10 weeks)
Tuesday evening / August 29th - October 31st / 6-8:30pm
£250 *Materials and firing will be charged at an additional cost

A chance to deep dive into the many avenues of surface exploration within ceramics. This course will be guided towards better understanding materials through production and experimentation. Together we will build ourselves a broad collection of tests to continue referring to whilst a narrowing of glazes will provide further understanding into how materials can be easily adapted and adjusted through addition.
Alongside making you will also assist in the maintenance of materials, such as slips, glazes and clay recycling. This will help to provide a more intimate experience with the material and offers a rare chance to participate in the running of a ceramics studio.

This course would be ideal for anyone interested in hand-building or simply wanting to learn more about decorative techniques for clay.
